The complete Green Island tour & Great Barrier Reef tour combo in one day awaits with this exciting cruise! A fast 45-minute catamaran ride across the Coral Sea from Cairns will take you to beautiful Green Island to enjoy two hours on this unique reef and rainforest coral cay. A day of adventure and discovery continues onto Great Adventures’ spacious activity platform moored on the majestic Outer Great Barrier Reef.
From the activity platform, guests of all ages, swimmers and non-swimmers can enjoy a magical day on one of nature’s wonders. With the air-conditioned semi-submersible and underwater observatory, you don’t even have to get wet to discover the reef. Snorkel directly off the platform amongst beautiful coral gardens and colourful marine life, or just relax on the sundeck with a delicious buffet lunch and enjoy the amazing marine-scape!
Exciting optional activities include scuba diving, guided snorkel tours, the exclusive Scuba-Doo underwater scooter and scenic helicopter flights to see the reef from a different perspective.
“ We really enjoyed Green Island and the Greater Barrier Reef. The pontoon was simple but had the semi-submersible, underwater viewing, snorkelling and even scuba diving. The sub was amazing and let you view everything and stay dry. Snorkelling was perfect with lots of fish to see. The only bad bit was we had a really windy day so rough seas, still worth the trip.
Fantastic day! The food was great, and the staff were attentive. Stopped in at Green Island for 2 hours. Time went super fast, so it's probably best to have a plan on what you would like to do before you get off. Would recommend once you reach to pontoon grab a table first. Highly recommend.

2 months agoThe reef itself was fantastic and the crew getting us there was awesome, but the journey itself was insanely rough with bad weather conditions, to no fault of the crews. It would have been nice to have some ambient music playing in the background to mask the sound of people vomiting all around us! As for the food options, it's disappointing that an ecotourism company with great conservationist values had barely any food without animal products. More eco-friendly food options would have been great. Aside from this, I would definitely recommend this to a friend, but would tell them to bring some headphones (and a sandwich) for the journey!
3 months agoWe really enjoyed our day. Green Island is a lovely little place, we could have almost spent the whole day there. And the Great Barrier Reef pontoon was awesome. I still can't believe I got to float above a turtle. The day was well run by the company and all the employees were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.
4 months agoHad a fantastic day on Green Island and Great Barrier Reef snorkelling. Amazing scenery. Perfect weather. Clean and modern vessels. Staff smiling, friendly and helpful. Plenty of food options. Everything ran to schedule. Will recommend this experience to everyone.
4 months agoWell-organised tour and excellent service provided The tour included complimentary hot and cold buffet lunch It also included complimentary semi-sub activity to view the coral from the comfort of the semi-submersible boat 10-minute helicopter ride was the cherry on the cake It is a must to do activity
5 months agoHad so much fun, was amazing, great area for snorkelling and beautiful fish. Green Island beach and snorkelling were also amazing. The food was nice, would be better if there were fish and chips, at times the tides were strong, however, the crew was very helpful and nice, and sitting outside helped with feeling sick. Didn't stop us from having fun and going again.
5 months agoWonderful. We scored a beautiful day, with lovely weather, polite, organised, helpful, informative crew and good food. The first stop was Green Island. We chose to pay to visit the crocodiles and watched them getting fed. Then back on the boat to travel to the pontoon. Many options to see the reef. Grabbed our equipment and hit the water. A little getting used to the mask & snorkel but wow fantastic reef. Felt so safe, with supplied Lycra suits, life jackets & lifeguards & staff watching us. Appreciated the good buffet food after that workout. Underwater sub and then tea and cake. Quick shower & change clothes for the trip home. Cheese & biscuit on the way back.
5 months agoMy husband and I had our first trip to Cairns and had booked this Green Island and Great Barrier Reef day a few months ago for Tuesday, 23rd of May. Unfortunately, the weather in Cairns was unusually windy, overcast, and some rain. The trip to Green Island was okay, but leaving GI we were barely able to walk along the pier due to the strong wind. The boat ride from here to the outer reef was rough with high swells. At least half of the boat were sick before we made it to the pontoon. We were feeling so unwell we were not able to eat the lunch we'd paid for or go snorkeling. The underwater observatory was murky due to the weather and you couldn't really see the coral or fish well. In the end, we paid quite a lot to get on a helicopter and get back to Cairns as we were too sick to stay on the boat. The staff was all polite and courteous, however, I'm disappointed Great Adventure didn't cancel this trip and give the option to reschedule on a better 'weather' day, rather than cashing in. It's a big expense and not great to experience the reef with high winds and 1.5-2 meter swells. If I do this ever again I will book on the day, in person, not in advance. Overall it was disappointing 😞
6 months agoUnfortunately, we went on a windy day, which meant a very rough ride. Green Island was really underwhelming, almost all the shops were closed, and at the entrance to the shops, the smell of fish was horrid! $45 to hire 2x beach chairs is ridiculous! And $28 to see a crocodile show, $18 to buy a packet of crisps and a sandwich. The resort looked like it needed a lot of work done. The Outer Reef was amazing though, I could have spent all day snorkeling!!! Morning and Afternoon tea was disappointing, but lunch was good.
7 months ago“Take advantage of all the INCLUDED activities once out at the reef platform to take in the reef from all angles. These activities included the semi-submersible, underwater observatory, reef education presentations and more.”
